A Dutch Japanned Cabinet
A Dutch Japanned cabinet enclosed by a pair of doors with engraved and pierced gilt brass mounts. The interior with an arrangement of eleven drawers on a carved and openworked stand. (Later gilded)
The style of painting is paralleled in the Netherlandish school of flowerpainting, which similarly influenced the decorators of Delftware at the time.
This cabinet belongs to a small group of similar cabinets whose form and decoration points to a single workshop. A spectacular pair of cabinets is in the GETTY MUSEUM in Malibu (US). |
