This bracket clock was made by Adam Heijmuijs around 1750 in Amsterdam. The Dutch clockmaker was originally from Breda but worked in Amsterdam for most of his life.

The oak case of the clock is veneered in burr-walnut and the hood contains a beautifully carved ornament as well as bronze elements consisting of a handle and pinnacles on the corners. When we look at the dial of the clock we can see that it is signed by Heijmuijs. A captivating detail is the lunar phase as well as the depiction of Apollo and Diana beneath.

This clock contains a surprise when we look at the back and a beautifully engraved plate is revealed. The plate is engraved with floral motifs and is signed by Heijmuijs as well.

The Rijksmuseum also has a clock by Heijmuijs in its collection. This clock is from a slightly later period which is evident in its style. This clock was sold to the Rijksmuseum by the Stodel firm in 1967.
