The vase-shaped casters are decorated with borders of pearls, leaf ornaments and rosettes, as well as cannelure grooves in the high neck. The tall caps have cut openings and a border of pearls. Rather than objects for use, casters were decorative elements that remained on the table for the duration of the meal. These casters are good examples of the Amsterdam Louis XVI Neoclassical style, defined by balance and elegance, and highly valued in the town itself and far beyond.
These casters bear a mark of three apples in a shield, which indicates the work of Martinus Logerath (1733-1814). Logerath was born in The Hague as the son of the well-known silversmith Johannes Logerath.
