This basket was made in Münster, in the second half of the 18th century. Very few objects like this one were made in the Netherlands, the only known examples come from Maastricht. The basket was made by Hermann Heinrich Osthues, the Osthues firm is still active today in München.
These objects were used to display sweet meats, sugared fruit was particularly popular. A remarkable detail is the figure representing Judith with the head of Holofernes.
